BR-H sweeps Norway in opener

NORWAY — It was worth the wait for the Bark River-Harris baseball team.

The Broncos finally opened their season Tuesday by sweeping host Norway 5-2 and 5-4.

“They were very well-played baseball games,” Broncos’ coach Al Botwright said. “It was nice to play in 75-degree weather. I think it helped both teams. It was good pitching for both teams and very few errors.”

Sam Hall pitched a five-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk in the opener.

“He pitched an excellent game,” Botwright said. “He had excellent control and mixed his pitches well.”

Kadin Mustafa laced a double and Logan Heim contributed three RBIs, two stolen bases and two hits, including a solo homer in the fifth inning.

“(The homer) was a huge insurance run for us late in the game,” Botwright said. “He had an excellent offensive game.”

In Game 2, Ryan Arndt worked four innings, allowing two hits, one run, striking out seven and walking one. Matt Richer came on in relief and gave up four hits, three runs, while striking out four and walking none.

Cole Ray’s two-run double in the fifth was a key hit and provided insurance runs for the Broncos.

Arndt finished with two stolen bases and scored two runs, Heim went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Nick Navurek added two hits and scored a run.

The Broncos will host Stephenson Friday at 5:30 p.m
