HARRIS — The Bark River-Harris Broncos reaped the benefits of solid pitching and a big sixth inning Friday night in a 12-1 baseball victory over the Stephenson Eagles.

BR-H led 4-1 after five frames, then exploded for eight runs in the sixth.

“It was a very tight game, then we finally broke through in the sixth,” said BR-H head coach Al Botwright. “This was a great win. It’s always great to win your home opener.”

Winning pitcher Matt Richer threw a one-hitter through five innings. He struck out six and walked none. Mason Korhonen, who relieved in the sixth, fanned five, walked three and allowed three hits.

“They both had very good control,” said Botwright. “It was an outstanding performance from those young men. We also had real good timely hitting.”

BR-H’s Sam Hall collected three hits, including two doubles and two RBIs. Ryan Arndt also had three hits and scored three runs. Cole Ray ripped two doubles and drove in three runs and Kaden Mustafa had two hits and scored three times.

“We had our moments,” said Botwright. “The top of our lineup strung together some pretty good at bats. We also had nice weather. It was almost a perfect night for baseball.”

BR-H visits Escanaba Monday with the jayvees playing at 4 and the varsity contest scheduled for 6.
